To celebrate our little one turning 5 months old we decided to try something new! Mashed Bananas!
I have nursed Eloise from the beginning. We have been lucky in the fact that she was born at the beginning of my slow season so we didn’t have much need to try anything else but exclusively breastfeed. (She has taken a few bottles for the times that I haven’t been around.) I am definitely pro “fed is best” but we just got lucky that breastfeeding has been easy for us.
I want to start that we are not REALLY starting Eloise on food food yet. She has been VERY interested in food for over a month now. She tracks our every bite and reaches for everything we eat. Though, to be fair, she reaches for about everything right now. We won’t be starting her on anything more permanent until about 6 months, unless we come across a reason to start earlier. We DID however want to try a little mashed food for her, to see where she stands in eating anything at all. We weren’t sure if her reflux to spit it out would have dissappeared yet or not and she is sitting up on her own fairly well. After talking with my Dr. and other moms we thought that every once in while we should let her try something other than nursing. So we did!
We decided to try some mashed bananas! (side-note, I did not realize how badly bananas smelled after being mashed and smelling them for an extended period. I must just eat them faster than I can smell them) We mashed them up and sat her in her highchair. Which she loved!
Her first one or two bites she spit out the food instantly, but slowly she started getting the idea. After she got the hang of it she decided SHE wanted to feed herself and kept grabbing the spoon to pull it into her mouth. Apparently we just were not fast enough. Lol.
When we were done she kept licking her fingers to try and get more of the banana. Matthew and I are definitely foodies so we kind of had an idea our girl would like for as well. At least bananas!
What was the first food your baby ate? Are they good eaters? Picky eaters? Let me know!
