Half Bath Reno

I have been waiting to post this blog. Mostly because the bathroom is still not completely finished, but I just had to share before it was too far past. lol. We have a few more things to add/fix/finish, but I would say we are about 95% done, and it’s one of my favorite little rooms in our home right now!

I chose our little half bath as our next project , mostly because of size. I knew we could finish it relatively easy. (HA) I already had my vision for it and I really  hated the little teal bathroom. I knew I wanted something classic, modern with a little fun. I knew I wanted a fun wallpaper and a pretty floor. If you would see my bathroom and my original mood board for this room, they are pretty darn close.

I actually started with the floor. I knew I wanted this Calcutta Marble. It had the right amount of white/tan/gray flecked in it! It’s so classic and pretty! I knew I didn’t want white grout and I didn’t want gray, so I used a Carmel brown color grout to bring in the browns from the wallpaper. It matches the brown in the tile perfectly! My husband and I are still learning about tile so we definitely will do a few things different next time (seal the marble?) I still absolutely love it!

Then I found my wallpaper! I searched in a lot of places but ultimately found it on the Etsy page Walls By Me. It’s beautiful. It had all the colors and elements I wanted in the wallpaper. I wanted something classic, but still fun. I knew I wanted a combination of tan, cream and golds in the paper. And I REALLY wanted a bird to be in the print somehow. I think this nails it. It seems to be everyones favorite part of the bathroom. ( along with the new  toilet paper dispenser that has a place to set your phone.)

I knew I wanted to do a Board and Batten wall on the bottom half of our wall. Thank goodness my husband is good with math! I chose Sherman Williams White Batten, an off white/cream color, that is just beautiful! It matches the bodies of the birds and flowers on our wallpaper! We also bought crown moulding ( not pictured) but once we had it up we didn’t love it. It’s still up, but we are replacing it with a new moulding soon!

My sink was definitely my hardest decision. I was being very picky. I didn’t want white or gray. I knew a dark wood would be too dark for the space and a lot of lighter woods are more “rustic” or “bohemian”. I wanted a good classic sink, with a marble top, and a little bit of storage. Then one day I came across this lovely vanity from Lowes and I knew it was the one! It seems to be sold out already, but you can signup here to see when it comes back in stock! I changed out the knobs for some simple brushed gold knobs and found a beautiful brushed brass faucet, both of which I found on Amazon! It has a slightly vintage feel, but still somewhat modern. Thats what I am all about. Combining all the styles to create something perfectly unique.

For my light fixture, I had found Olde Brick Lighting on Etsy or Instagram and I fell in love with them! Every piece is gorgeous with their handblown glass! I had them saved for years knowing that when I re-did my bathroom I was purchasing our lights from them! I wish my photos showed the cool detail on the bulbs, but I will add the stock photo so you can see just how pretty they are!

We finished off the bathroom with our simple gold mirror. I knew I wanted gold, but the gold had to be minimal because we already had so much gold/brass throughout the whole room. Since my lighting fixture and faucet had vintage elements to it, I wanted the mirror to be a little more modern to balance it out. Thankfully I found the perfect one at my local Home Goods.

I still have a few more things to finish up. A few paint touchups, New crown Moulding and I really want to put something up on the wall behind the toilet, but I have decided if I want shelves or art. Even with those few things this space “feels” done and we love it so so much. It’s bright and fun and pretty. Every new space I finish just makes me excited to start the next project, but until then we are enjoying this little half bath!

If you are a numbers person, here is roughly what we spent to finish this space!

  • Wallpaper – $680
  • Light – $285
  • Paint – $45
  • Vanity + S&H – $405
  • Mirror – $75
  • Floor – $150
  • Knobs – $13
  • Faucet – $108
  • Wood – Roughly $250
  • Total = Roughly $2011
